Not many women in African countries, especially in the SMEs Sector, have fully appreciated the role of standards, metrology and conformity assessment in value addition, industrialisation, market creation and access and the overall augmentation of their economies on continental and global scales.
Insufficient knowledge and lack of awareness on the need and importance of standardization especially amongst government policy makers, industry/SMEs, consumers, and other general public is a major impediment.
Hence, Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) in collaboration with ARSO are running an essay competition targeting students aged between 18-35 years with a goal to create awareness on standardization and conformity assessment.
Students from higher learning institutions - colleges and universities are encouraged to take part in the National Essay Competition and eventually compete at the continental level if they emerge top 3.
