KEBS SMS Service complements the effort of identifying illegal use of KEBS quality marks through public participation using mobile phones via SMS services.

It also enables the verification of details of inspection of a used motor vehicle imported into Kenya.

It also enables the verification of KEBS staff particularly Quality Inspectors and Market Surveillance Officers who make industrial visits and goods outlets. This will minimize the possibility of impersonation of KEBS staff.

It enables the following information to be availed to consumers and manufacturers:-

1. Standardization Mark

To verify if the SM has been issued by KEBS one needs to send a text message to 20023 as follows:-

SM#Permit Number

Manufacturer are now required to display the Standardization Mark Permit Number below the mark as illustrated in the example below for Product:

SUNFLOWER OIL, Brand: RINSUN manufactured by : KAPA OIL REFINERIES LTD

For example SM#22203

22203 is the permit number

The expected response is as follows:-

Product: HAND SANITIZER LIQUID, Brand: SAFI, Firm: SPECTRA CHEMICALS (KENYA) LTD, SM Issue Date: 6/27/2017, Expiry Date: 5/15/2018, Status: Active.

OR

SM#brand name

For example SM#rinsun

rinsun is the brand name.

The expected response is as follows:-

2. Diamond Mark

To verify if the DM has been issued by KEBS one needs to send a text message to 20023 as follows:-

To verify if the ISM has been issued by KEBS one needs to send a text message to 20023 as follows:-
